Ziiiiiip!

Zipper up, it's getting cold outside!  Both Takamichi irie and Dead Frog Inc. have individually created interesting zipper designs in the past month.  Both designs are very different from each other, and it should be noted that Dead Frog's (the second zipper) was involved in a competition, while Takamichi had a choice in the parts he used.  Dead Frog was participating in InnovaLUG's ABS Builder Challenge, which involves using a specific element in creative ways.  For his creation, Dead Frog was limited to the light blue element that you see making up the zipper.  Both look fairly watertight, so they should be prepared!

Try Getting Past Him

Creative character builder Djokson has an intense bodyguard.  Don't even try to steal any of his LEGO elements. In all seriousness, the builder executed a menacing aspect incredibly well.  This demon-like creature is something you'd only see in a nightmare.  When I was younger, I collected Bionicle figures (I still have a large box under my LEGO desk).  However, I have no talent for creating my own.  Seeing models like these always impresses me.  I'm getting a little bit of a Makuta vibe off this guy, only I think I'd rather fight Makuta than this one.

Even Superheroes Need to Play

The Boy Wonder has a wonderful Batman-themed source of entertainment.  Unlike Batman, Robin is not limited to only black and very very dark gray.  With the release of the upcoming LEGO Batman film, Dark Knight creations are slowly popping up more and more.  LEGO 7 has created a diorama for the movie release, similar to what he did earlier this year for Star Wars.  The builder has filled this scene with little easter eggs and familiar Batman items, including some of the new superhero Microfighter figures.  How many can you pick out?

To The Gate!

These poor knights do not look like they'll be celebrating Christmas any time soon. . .  Builder Cab ~ has his hands full with a siege at his front gate.  There are many iconic weapons of war throughout history.  Some crafts were massive, some were simpler and smaller, but served an equal importance just the same.  This particular scene is a clean and lively build (well, except for the occasional arrow and dead soldier), while still portraying the urgency of the invading soldiers, and those defending their keep.  I'm seeing clean castle walls like this less and less lately, so this was a pleasant castle creation to witness.  Hopefully these soldiers can come to some sort of truce before the holiday. . .

A Very Marvel Christmas To You

Action!  Joy!  Easter eggs!  Bright colors!  Good food!  Superheroes!  This is how a true Marvel Christmas should be done, which is exactly what Milan Sekiz did!  It appears that the Avengers and the Guardians have gotten a crossover sooner than expected.  Personally, I would watch a Christmas special with all of these characters uniting for the holidays, but that's just me.  There are many little details in this creation, so make sure to zoom in and take a closer look!  You may find some familiar items decorating their tree. . .

Rebel Attack Looming

Graham Gidman used the LEGO Group's latest AT-ST design in a scene from the Rogue One trailers.  Since the movie released, we know we will be seeing many more Rogue One creations popping up across the internet.  This particular building really impressed me, and is one of my favorite Star Wars buildings seen in LEGO.  The different angles executed are seamless, creating a futuristic architecture style.  The new recruits to the Rebel Alliance seem to be preparing to take on the walker.  Will they prevail?!

Remnants. . .

There is so much in the Star Wars universe that we don't know.  Battles, vehicles, characters, abilities, and weapons are just a few pieces of the unknown portion of the story.  In this beautifully depicted model, Sanellukovic represented a crashed Lambda-class T-4a Imperial Shuttle that is being swallowed by the terrain of this forest moon (or planet).  Even though the craft is partially destroyed, it's still recognizable as the iconic vessel used by many high-ranking members of the Galactic Empire.  There are so many unanswered questions through this single photograph.  What happened to the crew?  Why did this ship crash?  This is a Star Wars MOC that I'd like to see a short story written about in the future.  Lucasfilm?  Hello???

Argh Me Hearties! Wait, Wrong Time Period...

Patrick Massey has put the finishing touches on a beautiful replica of a Viking warship!  I like that he chose to do the hull with dark brown instead of the typical brown we see in wooden structures.  The hull is well-shaped with the wonderful shields staggered on the side of the boat.  The crew of this ship will have a strong defence!  I think my favorite part of this ship is the dragon head on the bow.  It's one of the most accurate I have seen at this scale, and I noticed multiple different Viking ships in the past few months.  It would be super cool to see a whole fleet of this particular version!

Fence Designs

Legopard has shared three wonderful techniques for creating intricate fences around your MOC's.  These techniques were created for "The New Black" parts challenge, a contest featured on New Elementary.  I believe each design is self explanatory, including fairly common parts to create iron fences.  The first model he features I could see surrounding a manor, perhaps in London.  His second technique would fit well for a prison gate or an entrance into a graveyard.  Third and lastly (and my personal favorite), the builder uses Ninjago helmet ornaments to create complex shaping to the bars.  What fences can you create?  A special thanks to the builder for sharing these techniques on his Flikr page!

Fall in Winter

Though the actual season may be winter, that doesn't change the fact that this is a beautiful autumn tree.  The trunk is my favorite part, which has been created very well using some new common elements.  I find that LEGO string really adds a nice bark texture to tree trunks (assuming it's the same color as the "wood.")   It's rare for such a small landscape scene to be this detailed, but Legopard has done just that with this little creation.

Expecto Advent-Calendo!

A wonderful new contest is being held this December, the Create-A-Calendar Contest, hosted by fellow LEGO blog the Brothers Brick.  The contest began on December 1st and will last until the 17th.  One of the first few entries is this magical Harry Potter calendar created by Koen.  It seems that even Voldemort, when he's not too busy attacking Muggles, can even get in the holiday spirit!  Each of these small builds are well done and recognizable (it should be pointed out that each individual build can be no more than 20 pieces) to any Harry Potter fan!  If you like any of the official LEGO advent calendars, maybe it's time for you to create your own!

TIE Work In Progress. . .

Never know what to do when you have a WIP (Work In Progress)?  Why not be creative and display it somehow?  That's what Inthert did with his latest project.  He felt it was "a perfect opportunity to reveal the progress I've made on my TIE fighter."  The use of the LEGO rubber bands to act as wires is always a great technique to see.  I also really like all the ladders and platforms he has created for the hard-working Imperial forces.  Looking forward to seeing this model zipping across the sky!

Festive Tournament!

It's finally winter time, which means holiday joy and fun!  For castle builders, it also means it's time for the Colossal Castle Contest!  Jen Spencer has brought these two exciting events together in a joyful castle creation!  In this winter wonderland (Christmas pun intended), a medieval archery tournament is gearing up for a cold, but fun day in the snow.  I do hope that no one is using ice or white arrows, because if they miss their target they might never find them again!  Happy holidays, everyone!

     For the most part, I collect LEGO Star Wars (mainly the minifigs), which is probably my favorite LEGO theme.  I have a fairly decent collection, including some of the original 1999 sets, such as the Snowspeeder, X-Wing, and Naboo starfighter.  I also collected LEGO the Lord of the Rings when those sets first came out.  The minifigs are great, and the story remains one of my favorites ever.

Milano Viper

Smooth, elegant curves is the best way to describe this wonderful starship by Tyler.  Perhaps it's just me, but the colors and design seem to remind me of the Milano from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, which is the ship that belongs to Peter Quill.  I could picture the minifigure of Star-Lord sitting in the cockpit of this beautiful craft.  Looking forward to more space crafts from you, Tyler!

Nathaniel Stoner

     My name is Nathaniel Stoner, and I am an very active LEGO builder.  I mostly build in the themes of castle and science-fiction, but I also dabble in other genres and create occasional random MOC's (My Own Creations). 

     When I was younger, I would get and build small LEGO sets for my birthday, but I was never really into them.  When they fell apart, I would become frustrated attempting to put them back together and would throw them in a box in my closet.  I couldn't stand them!

     Then, miraculously, I became addicted to the LEGO brick later in my teen years.  Ever since, I have continued to build up (pun intended) my collection of bricks and to expand my knowledge of techniques and building skills.  LEGO is truly more than a toy, its an art form and a way to express yourself.

Blacktron Acquiring Target. . .

I for one am not going to mess with Peter Reid's newest creation!  This small, but dangerous tank is packing some major artillery!  Besides the threat that is looming in this photograph, this creation is really well done.  One of my favorite pieces incorporated is that new triangular tile that is used on the side.  I think it would be super cool to have an army of these!

Holiday Remix

LEGO 7 has taken three Christmas characters and has redesigned them in a crazy, remixed style.  My favorite (even though I like them all respectively) is the elf on the left.  His colors and design just really blend well together, while keeping an insane style.  Santa, on the other hand, might scare a few kids who are waiting eagerly by their home fireplaces.  Rudolph seems to possibly be wearing an "ugly" Christmas sweater?  And he's definitely got some bling on those antlers.  Never be afraid to have some serious fun with your creations.  Merry Christmas, everyone!

I Think He Went a Little Too Bananas

Skulls are not a common item to find in LEGO form.  They're also not easy to create, assuming you're going for accuracy in shaping and size.  I've only seen a few skulls that have been well done, and I'm happy to add this MOC to that short list!  Grantmasters chose to create the skull of an ancient primate, which is even more unique!  The builder says that this was his first attempt at a build like this, and I believe that he should be proud these bones!

Buzzzzzz. . .Houston, We Have a Problem

"I see them. . .Buzz Droids!"

Takamichi Irie may be having some problems with his spaceships soon!  This is a wonderful and incredibly accurate recreation of a Buzz Droid first seen in Revenge of the Sith.  My favorite part of this model is the eyes, which are so realistic!  I'm not sure how much time was spent on this creation, but a lot of Star Wars love and detailing went into this MOC!
