/I was going to wait to post another round of VWs, but this one makes me so happy I have to share. Not only is it brilliantly built, the name is so perfect. From one of my favorite builders, and a pretty swell guy, Angus MacLane

These are just too adorable not to blog. I have no idea of the nature of these (custom printed? waterslide? weapons glued on?) but from a guy named minifigmaker I assume they are totally custom. What I do know is they are irresistible. I want some!
I'm required by the 1997 CNC (conventions of nerddom council) provisions and guidelines to blog this. In strict compliance and adherence to policies under sections 42, 1138 and 3.14. Nice one Gothamscene.
I'm a nerd, so sue me.
Here's proof you don't need a lot of parts to be freakin' awesome. Han Solo's blaster, built with 15 pieces by ObedientMachine. I'm inspired to build a whole arsenal of mini props, who's with me?
“Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.”
Here at BrickNerd we like to look back from time to time, and also to look at some elements a whole new way. The first time I met builder Norbert "Norby" Labuguen we were both displaying at Star Wars Days at LEGOLAND CA. Norby brought this creation and stunned me. I had never considered Bionicle, Hero Factory and especially Galidor pieces particularly useful. Norby changed all that for me, and continues to amaze me with his MOCs. This isn't the greatest picture of his Opee Sea Killer, but you get the idea, it's awesome.
Theme parks are another of my passion (well, Disneyland and LEGOLAND at least) and this huge MOC from OliveSeon looks like one you'd have a hard time getting me out of. Three lands are represented here, Star Wars, LOTR and Marvel, and each land is packed with detail. I'm hoping more images come soon because I want to get a closer look. For now click through and scroll around the largest size, there's lots going on.
This MOC is too nerdy not to post. Being a long time Star Wars fan and a visual effect guy, this one is close to my heart. I remember when we used to build models and actually blow stuff up, good times, good times. Built by Legopard for a contest at Imperium der Steine. Check out all the pics at MOCpages.
This is freaking awesome. I actually laughed out loud when I saw it. The captured action is brilliant, check out the troopers tumbling out and the displaced snow shooting away from the head. Jim Walshe posted this but did not create it. Will the builder please step up?
UPDATE! We now know who the builder is, Daft Vader1 has come forward. Not only that, there's plenty more pictures of this awesome MOC.
OK, what are the odds that two amazing carbon freeze chambers from The Empire Strikes Back would show up in two days? I know there's a contest going on, but is one of the categories "build a carbon freeze chamber"? I can't read German so I'm not sure what's going on, but as long as these cool MOCs keep coming I don't care. I do care about the photography though, stop shooting MOCs with iPhones.
This carbon freezing chamber from KW Vaubon looks awesome. It reminds me of a Kenner playset from the 80's. If only LEGO had produced an Ugnaught this facility could be fully staffed. I would love to see this lit and photographed like the movie. It would take some patience, and a fog machine, but it would be amazing.
While pondering what to title this post, and what to write right here, I became seriously nostalgic for some good old fashion visual effects. When men were men and we blew stuff up. I also realized it's been way too long since I've screened ROTJ, so if you'll excuse me, I have some movie watching to do.
Flickr user j5k makes some beautiful images, and get this, it's all done in camera. Using simple lighting setups, a water tank and baking soda he achieves brilliant imagery. While the principal is simple, I can't imagine pictures like these come easy. But his patience is our benefit, and we can all admire these shots.
This is micro scale building on another level. Look at all the detail, all the subtle angles, the variations in color and texture, this is lovely. It has an amazing sense of scale for such a small MOC. Plenty more pictures after the jump. Nice work KW Vauban.

I am required by the unspoken nerd code to blog this. Failing to do so would immediately render me wannabe and strip me of all privileges. You see them at nearly all sci-fi conventions, the subjects of many schoolboy fantasies, the lady cosplayers and their sexy costumes. Now she's here in LEGO form, so we can all enjoy. Well played Kevin, well played.
This photo by DigiNik13 makes excellent use of depth of field. DOF typically haunts MOC photography by diminishing scale or losing detail. But when used correctly, like this, it makes the shot. It's a simple trick that's hard to master. See how you have no problem identifying the ship he's standing next to, yet Luke is set off the background by focus. The lighting is also great, with just enough reflections and highlights to sculpt and model the contours. Nice shot.
Here at BrickNerd, we pay tribute to MOCs from days gone by, and from galaxies far, far away. When I was just diving into the AFOL scene way back when, and discovering Flickr as the gathering place for MOC photos, I discovered an amazing builder. Not only an amazing builder, but a real character, and soon a dear friend, Iain Heath. This series of Star Wars characters still makes me smile every time I look at them.
Star Wars Days are in full swing at LEGOLAND California and my friends in LUGOLA (LEGO User Group Of Los Angeles) and SandLUG (San Diego LEGO User Group) are representing with some awesome builds. Get there, you must.
If you're in southern California this weekend be sure to head on down to LEGOLAND California in Carlsbad for Star Wars Days. There will be loads of activities, characters and intergalactic fun. While there be sure to check out the worlds largest LEGO model, the life-size X-Wing just landed. Also be sure to check out the displays by my friends at SandLUG and LUGOLA, they've been in a building frenzy for this weekend.
