Death By MMO

I share builder vitreolum's befuddlement at this phenomenon. Yes, people actually die while playing MMO games. They get way too into it and play for days without eating, drinking or sleeping and *whump*. I can understand "getting in the zone", I'm guilty of going deep during a creative endeavor and getting to the end of the day before realizing I hadn't eaten all day, but how one goes multiple days, and playing a game no less, is beyond me. I don't know what game this poor chap was playing, but it must have been immersive...perhaps too immersive.

Dwarvish Dragonguard

I've never heard of the game Battle for Wesnoth, but it was the inspiration of this excellent dwarf character by Pate-keetongu so it might be worth checking out. That dragon he's holding is called a Dragonstaff, an elaborately decorated and powerful weapon. Even if it wasn't capable of dropping an enemy, I might be tempted to carry one just because they look so cool.

E.T.

Here's a fun fact: I once sculpted E.T. out of Tootsie Roll! With a lack of clay in the house I noticed that Tootsie was actually a pretty decent sculpting material. It turned out pretty good if I do say so myself, and was a great conversational piece for many months. That is until the day I went in my room and found E.T. dangling out of my little sister's mouth (true story). This lumpy little guy was a fixture of my adolescent years, and this version by LegoJalex brings back a flood of feels. The build quality is fantastic, but it's the scenes and lighting that really bring him to life.

Prepare To Be Devoured

While I wasn't much into comics as a kid (and really I'm still not as an adult) I did enjoy a few from time to time. Spiderman and Ironman were always my favorite, but being from California, the Silver Surfer always caught my attention when I could find it. While I don't recall ever seeing Galactus in any of them, I've spent enough time around Brandon Griffith to recognize this MOC by Adam Dodge instantly. BrickCon will be devoured for sure.

BrickCon Is Nigh - It's Madness!

I'm scrambling to make all the last minute preparations before heading off to Seattle for BrickCon 2016. Me and my PIC Iain Heath are ready for some serious Bricks of Character action this year, and very happy to be celebrating the awesome theme, Madness!

Madness has always been a favorite band of ours, so we're going "skall-out" to celebrate. I finally finished my MOC yesterday and can't wait to see it on the BOC table with all the rest of the awesome MOCs you all bring.

Madness: One Step Beyond

And here's the trophies we're going to be handing out, minus their engraved brick, those will be added at the last minute.

I can't wait to see all my friends and make some new ones. If you're going to be at the con or visiting during the public days track me down to say "hi" and get some BrickNerd swag. See you all there!

Brick-Mojis

Seeing these last night warmed my nerd heart. It's been far too long since we've seen a character build from Ochre Jelly, so seeing these made me a bit... (wait for it)... emotional (you're welcome).  Me and Iain met through the power of character builds, and the category of Bricks of Character was born because of it. So to my brother-in-BOC, good to see you in fine form again.

Samus

It was a while before I bought and played Metroid Prime for Gamecube, and it was my first Metroid game (OK, I bought it for my son, but then played it myself). At first I was put off by the premise of morphing into a ball to roll around, seemed like a silly concept, but I warmed up to it quick enough. But what I remember the most is being floored that Samus was a girl, I'd seen the character for years, and had never known. This version by Pate-keetongu hits all the right marks. She looks ready for action.

The MOC Is Bursting With Awesomeness

The Arvo Brothers are back, with another jaw dropping, chest bursting, awe inspiring MOC. Everyone remembers the first time they saw Alien, hopefully before someone spoiled it for them (and with that being said, SPOILERS AHEAD) and when this adorable little dude bursted out of Kane's chest after everything seemed back to normal. This is the second version of this iconic creature from the Arvo Brothers, the last one being from 2007. Building instructions are available by contacting them at arvo@arvobrothers.com and soon on their website.

Excela Nova Aura

Builder Pate Keetongu has never played the game Shining Resonance, but that didn't stop him from being inspired to build based on it's concept art. And despite having never even heard of the game, I'm inspired to blog this beautiful MOC. I know a lose a few nerd cred points for having such poor gaming knowledge, but when you're as busy as I am, there's not much time for gaming. Check out the flowing forms of this lovely lady, the clever part use, the pose and sense of motion. Absolutely gorgeous.

Roadhog & Mercy

That title sounds a bit like an 80's cop show, or maybe two private investigators working in an exotic locale, but it's actually two new Overwatch inspired MOCs from Tim Schwalfenberg. This and a handful of other recent games have been a huge design inspiration for a great many builders, and it's easy to see why. This game has so many unique and colorful characters you can't help but want to surround yourself with them. And what better way than some masterfully done character MOCs?

HA HA HA HA HA!

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! The most famous villain in the world, the Joker. This dude has been causing Batman nothing but headaches since 1940. This version by builder MaverickDengo wasn't inspired by any particular source, but certainly has a more comic/cartoon feel to him. It also happens to be his first character build, very impressive, that mouth is a clever work of art.

Metabee

Of course when I first spotted this awesome MOC by nobu_tary my first reaction was "oooh, cool" then it was "wonder who it is?". A quick google search reveals it to be from the Medabots series, which I've never heard of, so I dig deeper. Upon further research I learn he's loosely based on a rhino beetle, and his catch phrase is "Dude, I rock". At which point I decided he's alright with me.

Bending Fire

Avatar The Last Airbender is an awesome show (the animated series, not that abomination by M. Night Shyamalan, it didn't happen, never speak of it, la la la la la) we were big fans of it in this house and watched  with enthusiasm. Builder NeverEnoughLego was a fan too, and celebrates the show with this spectacular MOC featuring Zuko and Azula doing what they do best, kicking much butt while bending fire.

Star Wars Rogue One: Chirrut Îmwe

It's fantastic that the Imperium der Steine MOC Olympics contest is coinciding with the hype engine of Lucasfilm for Rogue One, I think. I mean, I'm already super excited for the movie, and I love these MOCs, but there's only so much my feeble nerd heart can take. One of the characters I find the most fascinating is Chirrup Îmwe, depicted here in this stunning MOC by cecilihf. He looks totally bad ass, and I can't wait to see him in action.
